The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui is both parable play and fantastic spectacle, warning of the dangers of a desperate populace handing over power to a corrupt leader. In The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, Brecht recasts Hitler as Arturo Ui, a small town mobster in 1930’s Chicago. Bolstered by illusions and thug tactics, Arturo Ui rapidly ascends to a position of power and respectability over an economically self-interested public.

Bertolt Brecht’s humorous, politically-resonant, and surprisingly-contemporary morality tale features an ensemble cast of Terry Burnsed, Josh Hartwell, Jim Hunt, Jessica Robblee & Ken Witt. The play is directed by Brian Freeland. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm through 14 June 2008, with a reprisal scheduled for 26-29, August, during the Democratic National Convention. Ticket prices are $10.00-$20.00. All performances will be held at BINDERY | space, 720 22nd St., Denver, CO.

For reservations and information call 720.221.3821, or reserve via email at tickets@countdowntozero.org.

My Name is Rachel Corrie was created from the personal journal entries, emails, and writings of the young activist Rachel Corrie after her death in 2003 while trying to stop an Israeli bulldozer in the Palestinian residential area of Rafah. Countdown to Zero chose this play as an artistic vehicle to facilitate community dialogue about the issues in the play, and, here in Denver, we offered post-show talk backs and panel discussions in order to address the issues raised in the play and to encourage fair and honest conversation and reflection. The results were thought-provoking and poignant.

At the request of peace organizations in the region, Countdown to Zero is now announcing an extended tour of this play. Our company is passing through states in the Midwest and West in April and May, and would love to partner with local peace groups for a performance of this play in your area. In Denver, we worked with local organizations who offered this production in conjunction with other fundraising efforts. This could be an exciting opportunity for your organization and other groups in your region and we could use your help. Would you be interested in hosting Countdown to Zero in presenting our production of My Name is Rachel Corrie? Or would you take the time to pass along our contact information to groups who may be interested in this kind of partnership? Any help you can give us in spreading the word and pointing us in the right direction would be very appreciated.

Please contact us as soon as possible if you are interested or have any questions. You can also keep up to date on the tour schedule.
